To be honest, I don’t think of him at all anymore.

Don’t take that the wrong way, it’s not because I hate him or because we had a really crappy relationship. It’s mainly because I believe our relationship was very fulfilling and satisfying, and ran a full course with a complete conclusion and fully tied ends. I don’t really feel the need to dwell on him much because it’s probably one of the only relationships that I’m very comfortable with.

I wish I could write you long, beautifully crafted paragraphs, elegantly weaved together with just the right diction and syntax to make your heart beat faster and force the dim to fade in your world. There’s nothing that would make me happier than to whisper velvet into the air and rest assured that it would travel between us, just to sit on your patio sill and greet you in the morning.

There are days when I don’t want to think about you. When the mere lingering nostalgia surges through my body and makes me absolutely sick to stomach. When a single thought crosses my mind and I automatically reach for my phone, just to toss it back on the bed in a bitter flee of emotions. These days have been more frequent lately and as I run from them, they round each corner and hold the obvious to my throat: I miss you.

I miss the you who used to hold the innocence and nativity of a child, the you who would call new experiences “refreshing” and face them head on with gusto. I miss the you who would sit on the edge of his couch, holding the phone to your ear in a lazy disposition, biting the tip of your thumb in contemplation. I miss the you who would rest your head on the plain white wall in my room, sipping on that stupid milk tea boba, trying not to giggle as we went through Netflix titles, eventually settling on what I wanted to watch because it makes your best friend happy. I miss the you who would take me to our secret, dimly lit sanctuary, even though it was 10 miles away, just because we loved that place so much. I miss my best friend.

But on the other hand, I don’t want to miss you because in the past few months, I realized that my perception of you was so screwed beyond belief. I don’t want to miss you because your words rip through my lung and tear my limbs apart. I don’t want to miss you because the things we used to do fell into tiny little pieces that have been burn to crisp ashes. I don’t want to miss you, because in all honesty, I don’t even know who I miss, and I’m also really fucking sick of missing you.

I used to want to let the little boy I once knew that I thought about him today. But there’s no point. He’s dead.
